Thread 45 beads onto your crochet cotton. Slide the beads over for now because we don’t need them yet! Chain 21.
*note* while making this gift card holder, every other group of 3 double crochets will get a bead on the middle double crochet.
Round 1: dc in 6th chain from hook. Slide one of the beads up right next to the crochet hook. holding the bead next to the hook, dc in the next chain. Push the bead to the front of the double crochet. dc in the next chain. ch 1, skip next chain, dc in next 3 chains. ch1, skip next chain, dc in next 3 chains, putting a bead in the 2nd dc. You should have 5 chains remaining at the end of the row. Slip stitch into the very last chain. You should have a row with 3 groups of 3 dc and a chain 5 loop on each end. The 2 groups of dc on the sides should have beads on them.
Round 2: ch 3, in the 5 ch space: (2 dc with a bead on the first one, chain 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc with a bead on the 2nd one) to form 2 corners of the rectangle. ch 1, 3 dc in next chain 1 space, ch 1, 3 dc in next chain 1 space with a bead on the 2nd one, ch 1. (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (with a bead on the 2nd one) ch 2, 3 dc) in chain 5 space to form the other 2 corners of the rectangle. ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 space (with a bead on the 2nd one), ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 space. ch 1, sl st in top of beg ch 3.
Round 3: sl st to next ch 1 space. ch 3 (2 dc (first one with a bead), ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp to form corner. *(ch 1, 3 dc with a bead on the 2nd one) in each 1-ch sp. (ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc with a bead on the 2nd one) in each 2-ch space*. ch 1, sl st in top of beg ch.
Rounds 4-6: repeat round 3. fasten off. Repeat Rounds 1-6 to make another rectangle.
Once you have 2 rectangles, it’s time to stitch them together! Put the rectangles back to back and line up the corners and sides. You will be stitching through both of the holders to sew them together. Choose the color you want the border of your gift card holder to be. With that color crochet cotton, make a slip knot and slip it onto your needle.
Side 1: Holding the rectangles together, you will be working along a long side of the rectangle. Stitching through both rectangles, make 2 sc in the first corner. 1 sc into each dc, and into each ch 1 space along this side. 1 sc into the corner. You should have one side completely stitched together.
Side 2: Working only on the back rectangle this time (to make the opening of the gift card holder and the button loop!) Make one more sc in the corner. 1 sc into each dc, and into each ch 1 space along this side. 1 sc into the corner.
Side 3: Holding the rectangles together again, sc in the same corner space. Working down the next side, sc in each dc and each 1 ch space along this side. In the 2-ch space of the corner, make 2 sc.
Side 4: Still holding the rectangles together, 1 sc in each dc and in each 1 ch space along this side. Sl st into the first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
To make handle for hanging: Attach yarn to one corner near the open side of the giftcard holder. Chain 40. Sl st into the corner on the other side of the opening. Finish off and weave in ends.
Your new beaded giftcard holder is all ready give to a lucky person or to hang on your Christmas tree! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
